No argument here, although my favorite is probably Elmer Bernstein's score for The Great Escape. This could turn into a new thread.

Sorry for bringing up this old topic, but I keep wondering where I could buy the following cd: last.fm link. I am sort of addicted to the Battlestar scores and I would very much like to hear these rare songs. Thanks, Rian

Hello Rian, That cd is far from rare - you can order it on amazon. Many stores stock it as well. Thanks for listening. RG

Hi, thanks for replying. However I already own the cd that you speak of. The record I would like to own is the one with the following tracklist: last.fm isn't the only one to mention this cd; it can also be found on Musicbrains. So I guess this must be either a promo cd or some bootleg copy Anyway, I love your work and it's great to see that you talk to fans on this forum. Keep it up! Rian

Hi Richard and gang,
Thought I'd check out your site after reading the "G'donya Mate" ending to your liner notes - I'm giving your CD it's first listen and enjoying it! I got all excited and thought you were an Aussie - oh well, you aren't - not your fault I s'pose. But you do surf and what a cool website you have! Very Very unique! You must be part-Aussie, surely.
You've got Bear to thank for my little purchase of your CD, I bought his season 1 CD last year and naturally loved it. I ordered season 2 a few weeks back and decided to check your CD out as well. They arrived today, and certainly no regrets!
Thanks for your music and your cool site!
And nice surprise to see you using proboards, I have a proboards site as well - we are proboards brothers! I feel like I'm at home posting here! Very easy to use, but organising the color scheme was a nightmare... I think mine has the worst color scheme ever! Sorry for all the exclamation marks! I really like using them!
Sincerely CaptPorridge

I'm teaching English at Keimyung University in Daegu: www.kmu.ac.kr Very nice people to work for! I just read the story behind the UK / US Theme..... interesting stuff! I always wondered what that was all about. Yours is beautiful.. and love the start of the "By Your Command" piece. Looking forward to hearing more of your music. Peter

I'm teaching English at Keimyung University in Daegu Actually had some nice film music experiences this semester. Two of my classes were with freshmen piano and composition majors. What a joy it was to meet such enthusiastic and creative kids. The piano majors were always carrying round Chopin and Beethoven manuscripts, and when they were a little bored in my class their fingers would always start to play imaginary keyboards on their desks. Last month, before my class my students had a film music class. I arrived as the teacher was showing a clip from Papillion containing Jerry's music. The teacher left his powerpoint files on the classroom computer and I couldn't resist copying them. Although my Korean is too poor to read them, it's kind of cool to have Korean powerpoint presentations about John Williams, Joe Hisaishi, Michael Kamen, Hans Zimmer and Ennio Morricone! Hope one day my Korean is good enough to read them all. I showed the teacher my 40G iriver and tried to explain that in it was practically everything by Williams, Hisaishi, Kamen and Zimmer ... but I don't think he beleived me! At the end of semester, just for a bit of fun, I made a soundtrack quiz for my students. I played 20 clips from different scores and in groups they had to identify each piece. Yes my class is an English conversation class, but the goal of the course is pretty much to give the students positive learning experience and lower their fear of English, so there's scope to do other activities other than English conversation activities. A lot of the composition majors hope to get into film and TV work eventually. I asked them loads of times if I could listen to some of their compositions... but they were all too shy. Argh they were all so sweet! The semester just finished a couple of weeks ago, I miss them already! Next semester I'll introduce them to some funky Battlestar music!

Hello, it's my first post here, I didn't know Richard Gibbs before watching Battlestar Galactica. And I just come here to say : OMG !!! I had no idea a musical score for a serie could be that wonderful. I'm completely astonished by the score and (with Star Wars of course as mentionned just before me) this is one of the best music I've ever heard, period. I'm musician myself and this one gave me such a hard time listening to everything, understanding what is going on in the score, trying to put words on all these instruments used... Well, I just can't believe it ! This is completely unexpected and wonderful. So I just came to say I love you for the music you've composed. Really, I love you

Mr. Gibbs, I found the UK intro song to Galactica so compelling that I must ask if you plan on possibly extending the song. If not I would like to know if the UK intro was originally over two minutes long ?

Hmm - not sure what you mean by 'UK intro song'. A little help?

The UK song I was referring to, is the song in which Caitanya Riggan was singing.

Okay got it, liquid. You are referring to the main theme of the show. Originally it was a few seconds longer, though never anywhere near two minutes. Caitanya sang the upper harmony only - the main vocalist is my friend Michael Now. No plans to extend it, although it would be fun. Just need more hours in the day I guess.
