I can’t believe this is an empty form and we would be amiss if we did not post something now that Ribbs has made it. Most of our studio is powered with open source backends and it serves us well. The one pitfall is you need to know a lot about how to get this stuff up and running. We offer tips on that sort of thing all the time. …but I digress; In order to fill THIS forum with traffic, I thought I’d point you, the budding composer to the proper tools to get you started (and it does NOT take much), our logic being that the more composers/editos there are, the more traffic this forum will have!. I speak of the Cannabis-powered DYNEBOLIC ( www.dynebolic.org). All your Linux woes are disposed of with this and has professional-grade tools to get you cranking out the tunes You don’t even have to install it! You simply boot from the CD and you are good to go! A fully configured studio and LOTS of documentation at your fingertips! …ready for this? IT’S FREE! Forever! That’s very affordable! Do the math! …and no there is NOT a catch! This should get things started!

The people are US. The "program" is not a program. It's THOUSANDS of programs the allow you to produce any form of media you can think of, all contained in its own custom Linux build... ...and no you don't have to know anything about linux to use it. Mojo Dojo will be greatly enhanced by its use Give it a shot You guys work on another level! What the heck is that program about? And who are those people in your icon?

Well you are some fine-looking people (although very small). I'll have to check out what you are talking about next time I have one of my computer buds over here. By the way, I ended up naming the studio The Woodshed.

You tossed aside "Mojo Dojo" for "Woodshed"?! *Sigh* "Oh whimsical notion, we hardly knew ye!" Your buddy will only need to assist you in burning the CD The rest is designed to be a creative tool that encourages exploration. you can even make an interntet radio station with it yo broadcast your newly composed stuff. My pal Jonathan Davis pointed out that Mojo Dojo sounded like Mojo Jojo, the monkey on the Powder Puff Girls cartoon. Seemed too cute after that. The Woodshed will soon have its own website, designed by Ryan Swallow - the same guy who did this one.

Hey boy - y'know you could just ask me when you come home. But I guess you are being a dutiful son by building up my message boards. To answer your question - yes, Jonathan used to watch the Powder Puff Girls. He likes weird cartoons of any type and he has a young son. I think we should talk about the cartoons YOU watch! Dad

Speaking totally from experience, Since I do own the only forum with more traffic than Microsoft.... Its a double edge sword. The more traffic and members, the more Moderators and Admin needed to baby sit a forum. Not everyone will play nice. Then there is whats called "Trolls". These are people who hide behind a computer and Get off on creating havoc in a forum.
Banning functions? Dont know about this software, but you should see what I have to knock out a troll. 98% effective. ;D
Anyway, You want traffic? The search engines need to "Know" this site. I am also an editor/summitions of 'Zeal" which is the engine of MSN. Once your on there, the others will pick you up. I see You dont have a 'Keyword script" in your source code. No engine will remember this site without that. Next, what do you want as traffic? How broad will the topics be here. Its the topics that make a forum grow. I got here after days of reading and searching for the BSG soundtracks.
One thought I had, was an artist could post a link to his works, to be listened to by Ribbs for his opinion.
Another Topic could be how does someone break in to the music world.
IMO, music is the one thing that everyone in the world connects to, so this forum, should be able to do that.

We run a build off the project's CVS tree, so we have been playing with it for a while, but the new 7.1 release is now available! muse-sequencer.org/ is where you get it. Total cost = $FREE.00! Do the math! Very affordable! This is an entire recording studio that fits seamlessly into any existing studio. Hardware is cheap nowadays so there is a lot that can be done with MusE if you feed it enough resources. All composers should try this. It competes head-on with the expensive stuff!

I have been keeping an eye on Dynebolic - very cool! I recently received a live linux music distribution called Studio to GO! Based on Knoppix, it contains numerous music applications including rosegarden, ardour, with JACK already installed with low latency kernel patches. STG will also run windows vst's as jack clients or in rosegarden which now supports the new linux instrument format DSSI. http//www.ferventsoftware.comIt is a fairly complete KDE environment with music apps that boot off a cd leaving the computer untouched. It detects hardware and configures everything for you. I am still evaluating it, but so far it seems very useable and an absolutely cool way to introduce people to linux. I have been using linux for years to run my servers, but things are starting to heat up in the creative scene. I started using logic more than 10 years ago and seeing what has happened to it more than ramifies my interest in open source creative tools. I couldn't ever argue an extreme one way or the other, but like practicing a very unfamiliar mode, its a good habit to try new things Nice site Richard! -jonathan leonard

I can't believe someone beat us to it! We were about to post about that! Rosegarden isn't as "pretty" as products like Cubase of FL Studio, but if you know all the tricks, you can blow those products away. ...and it's FREE! Do the math! It's very affordable! Dynebolic is still our prefered distro though. Why? It has clustering and you can use XBOXES as nodes! I don't care WHAT P4 or MAC powerhouse you may be running, you cant beat a herd of XBOXES running Dynebolic. Truly music tools for the masses. I have been keeping an eye on Dynebolic - very cool!
