Almost finished - orchestral sessions begin this Thursday. Very sweet movie - good one to take the kiddies to on Christmas day after all the presents are unwrapped.

Is the location of the recording and the orchestra used based on the studios or is it up to you?

Every film is different - in this case, the director (Joel Zwick) and the studio (Fox) desired and funded for a relatively large orchestra of 85 - 90 players, with three plus days of recording time booked on the Fox scoring stage. It just so happens that I very much like the sound of that stage, so that is all good with me. When a film studio has its own scoring stage they usually prefer (for obvious reasons) that the composer record on that stage. Hence Dr. Dolittle, Like Mike, and Big Momma's House were all recorded on the Fox scoring stage, but Queen of the Damned was recorded on the Warner Bros. scoring stage. There are many other factors that affect the location and size of the orchestra - style of music desired, budget, union or nonunion picture, convenience to the dubbing stage and editorial facilities. The composer's preference does not usually trump any of the above.

Good luck on the sessions. I'm sure it's a very crammed 3 days of recording.

After you're done mixing will you be making the tracks available for listening here on your site?
It would be cool to hear them before the film is released.

I think I'd best wait until the film has been released - I appreciate the interest, though.

Your leader, huh? Flattery will get you nowhere.
I need to correct one minor error in the News-Journal article. Jeff (the interviewer) makes reference to Joel Zwick's previous film. That film has not been released yet - the title is Elvis Has Left the Building. He states that the previous composer had been fired, the implication being in the context of the article that the film was in trouble. Actually, there was no previous composer, nor was it in trouble. I did offer to score it for very low money in return for an inside shot at Fat Albert, but ultimately Joel opted to hire me for Fat Albert alone. There was some overlap on the schedules, so Joel hired my pal David Kitay to score Elvis.
