Yes, I agree! I am planning on picking this one up. Wish it was void of the various artists tracks though. But at least I get the score

Thanks guys! This one was a labor of love for me as a lifelong surfer. I was inspired to take up the sport by The Endless Summer, so it was a great thrill to get to hang with Bruce Brown. The man has stories! I had nothing to do with the song selection - as a matter of fact, I had to strong-arm the label to put more than three of my pieces on the soundtrack. Glad you appreciate it - maybe you should write Surfdog a note!

Richard,
I sure will! Amazing how things that almost happen and almost don't happen. That soundtrack minus your three cues would have been another coaster soundtrack. There are so many. I am glad you were able to pursuade them!

I just received my copy and was able to listen to it more closely.
Richard, the track Jesse is amazing. I so wish it was longer than 2:19.

Hello Jared Have you seen the movie? Even if you are not into surfing it is a very enjoyable ride. The piece named Jesse was written for a section of the movie about a local here in Malibu, Jesse Billauer. He was paralyzed during a surfing accident at Zuma Beach (just down the street from my house), yet still has the surfing bug big time. He had a special board made for him and he rides big waves on his stomach. The cue actually is quite a bit longer than you hear on the cd. Glad you liked it- that was a tough scene to score because the story and visuals were so powerful. I just wanted to set the mood and let it flow.

No I haven't yet, it's in my Netflix rental queue and coming up fast. Just out of curiosity, if the cue is longer why was that one shortened on the CD? In my opinion it's the best track of them all. You did a perfect job of setting the mood. I am anxious now to see how it is used in the film. And what a story about Jesse. I used to live in L.A. and have been to Zuma Beach many times. Although I lived in Burbank, I worked in Encino and always seemed to make my way over by the beach. I preferred the Malibu area as it was much cleaner than heading down south to Santa Monica or Manhatten. ;D Oh, and about you being mentioned in the same level of Jerry Goldsmith and Elmer Bernstein... I'll throw another one into the mix... John Williams.

Jesse was shortened because Surf Dog Records, the purveyor of the soundtrack, limited me as to the number of minutes I could release on the cd. Most of the cues were edited to fit. The full-length versions are ready for listening on my music page, however. As to the continuing flattery - I only hope John Williams doesn't read it. Thanks anyways, but contact me in twenty five years and let's see where I am then. Right now I'm just a pup.

Now I just finished watching the film. What a great documentary. It went into areas I didn't even know existed. Really cool!

The score is great. I bought it right after I saw the movie. Where do you surf? I'm a surfer myself and absolutly loved the movie. All my surfing pals have seen the movie and I love to tell them the fact that you (Richard Gibbs) did the score. You can catch me surfing down at Old Mans in San Onofre. Haven't listened to the music page yet, tonight I'll have a listening party. I got to this page from a link posted at Steve Bartek's website. Do you still stay in contact with any of the Boingo Boys? Great site. Keep adding more stuff.

Thanks, 9 fingered one. I surf Point Dume primarily, otherwise Zuma and points north. Hit Surfrider last Mother's Day and ended up with a very nasty ear infection that nearly cost me the hearing in my left ear. I'm over that and Surfrider now. I run into Steve and Danny once in a while at industry events. For a goof one night my wife and I went to see the Boingo tribute band Dead Man's Party and Steve, Johnny Vatos and Rick Elfman were all there - that was fun. Glad you like the site - there are still a few bugs to iron out, but it's getting there.
